Take off on a Great Winter Escape
Winter does not have to be a time to hibernate or leave the country to escape the cooler temperatures, Australia has such a great and diverse range of destinations to enjoy; soak in the sun, trek forests, drive through deserts, whale watch … take your pick. Check out the first of our posts about great winter escapes:
Soak in the Winter sun in North Queensland
Sun seekers should head to North Queensland where you can soak up the balmy weather, palm trees and swimmable seas. Snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef, set sail in the Whitsundays and trek the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest.
Hit the road and drive the Savannah Way to the remote Gulf Savannah, you’ll find a tropical paradise, where the average temperature from June to September is 25 degrees Celsius and the crystal clear waters are stinger free. http://www.australia.com/en/places/qld/qld-winter-sun.html
Wheel your way across South Australia
Four wheel drive the South Australian section of the vast Simpson Desert and be sure to have plenty of supplies, a desert parks pass and of course a four wheel drive. This excellent adventure does require planning and you’ll reap the rewards of a spectacular experience.
Explore salt-crusted lakes in the Simpson Desert Regional Reserve, relax in natural artesian springs in Witjira National Park and soak in the stunning surrounds, experience the Lone Gum in Simpson Desert Conservation Park … so much to enjoy. You’ll feel like a great explorer especially as you set up camp among the best nature has to offer.
Follow the flowers in the West
Western Australia comes into full bloom in winter as more than 12, 000 wildflower species burst into colour across the state. As you follow the flowers you’ll experience more of nature’s wonderful offerings.
A vivid trail of floral delights will lead you to Ningaloo Reef, where you can swim with whale sharks, snorkel with tropical fish and among coral. Follow the flora to the waves, caves and wineries of Margaret River. Walk among the flowers in the soaring karri forests on the Bibbulmun Track or take in their dazzling diversity from Albany. For a more sculptured floral experience, walk through Perth’s stunning Kings Park. Natural beauty abounds in the West.
